Character names, family surnames and guild ideas
Names shaped by race and class
A character name can suggest both heritage and a calling. Lore names combine race-specific first-name syllables with surnames drawn from race and class themes. Funny and Trollish tones replace those surnames with playful alternatives.
For example, this generator produces Aria Iceweaver for a Human Mage and Zaluru Gloomveil for a Troll Rogue. Iceweaver evokes frost magic; Gloomveil suggests concealment. These are generated ideas, not established Warcraft characters.
Shared surnames and guild names
A family surname connects characters without giving everyone the same full name. A shared-surname batch can include Halin Goldcrest and Ara Goldcrest: different first names, one family identity. Standalone surnames also offer a starting point when you already have a first name.
Guild names use a separate word pool for a group identity, such as Astral Vanguard. Character, surname, shared-surname and guild batches each contain ten distinct suggestions.
WoW Forever naming rules
Official character naming rules
- Every character has a first and second name. First names can repeat; the full pair must be unique within your region.
- Names must follow the in-game code of conduct. Confusing names, staff impersonation and restricted words, spellings or repeated-character patterns may be rejected.
- Both parts can be evaluated together. Splitting a restricted word across them does not bypass the naming policy.
- To hide your second name in the game world, open Options > Nameplates and turn off My Secondary Name. It still appears in chat.
What this generator checks
Our character names use 2-12 unaccented letters per part, an initial capital and no three identical letters in a row. These are this tool's format conventions. The linked Blizzard announcement does not specify an exact length limit for each part or an exact repeated-letter threshold.
This unofficial tool cannot check regional availability or Blizzard's full restricted-name list. Confirm your full name and its approval in-game.
Name generator FAQ
Can my group share a surname?
Yes. Blizzard describes shared family names and group naming themes. Each character still needs an available full combination, so pair your shared surname with different first names.
Will these names work in-game?
These names are inspiration, not reservations. Availability and the full naming policy cannot be checked here. Restricted words, impersonation or unsuitable combinations may still be rejected in-game.
How do RP and Hardcore differ?
Roleplay always uses Lore names. Hardcore adds survival humor to playful tones, while PvP adds battlefield themes to Lore names. These options do not indicate whether a ruleset is currently live.
Where are my names saved?
Favorites and your last 20 batches stay in this browser. Clearing site data removes them, and they do not sync across devices. Export your saved names to keep a backup.
